Consider adding resources like your résumé, list of services, case studies, and even a few testimonials if you’re focused on obtaining new employment chances. Showcase your passion projects and allow your personality run wild if the purpose of your portfolio is to establish your brand. You can make your portfolio far more compelling and intentional by knowing who your audience is.

4.Build a story around your work

Effective communication is as important to a designer as the images you produce. Creating a narrative around your work is always advised since humans are designed to engage with stories. Showing off the final product is not enough!

When you present projects, don’t forget to describe the reasoning behind your design choices and the steps you took to get there. Every project should have a narrative to captivate visitors. This will not only show that you are a successful designer who can solve problems, but it also helps prospective employers and clients understand your workflow. This doesn’t have to be an essay; keep it brief and easy to read (more on that later).

You don’t want a portfolio that is difficult to use or overflowing with irrelevant material that overpowers the page’s primary function of exhibiting your work! As you continue to expand your body of work, it’s recommended practice to update your portfolio on a regular basis to make sure the projects still reflect your objectives as a successful graphic designer.
